Matt Liu
Matt Liu is the Director of Debate at the University of Wyoming. He has a Master's degree in Communication Studies from Wake Forest University and over 20 years of experience in competitive debate. Before joining the University of Wyoming's staff, he coached multiple national championships in college debate at the University of Minnesota, Wake Forest University, and Liberty University. He has also coached multiple national championships at the high school level while working for The Harker School, New Trier, and Bronx Science. While in college, he won and was top speaker at the American Debate Association national championship, and was a quarter-finalist at the National Debate Tournament.
Alex McVey
Dr. Alex McVey is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies and the Director of Debate at Kansas State University, where he coaches NDT/CEDA Policy Debate and British Parliamentary Debate. As an undergraduate at Baylor University, Alex was a four-time NDT qualifier, a CEDA octafinalist, and NDT double octafinalist. He has since coached multiple teams to the elimination rounds of CEDA and the NDT and to first round at-large NDT bids at Baylor Unviersity and George Mason University. He received his PhD in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Media Studies. He has worked with numerous high school programs, including Midway High School, the Blake School and the Harker School. He has served as a lab leader at the Jayhawk Debate Institute and the Baylor Debate Institute. He has also taught debate summer courses and engaged in debate curriculum development for the Duke Talent Identification Program.
Amadea Datel
Amadea Datel is a senior at Dartmouth College who debated in college policy at both Columbia and Dartmouth. She reached the quarterfinals at the Gonzaga Jesuit Debates and won the University of Minnesota College Invitational, the Crowe Warken Debates at USNA, and the Mid America Championship, ranking as the 25th team nationally her sophomore year. In high school, she built and coached her school’s LD debate team, won several tournaments in Massachusetts, and was the top speaker and a semifinalist at the MSDL State Championship and the first student from her school to qualify for NSDA and NCFL Nationals, clearing at the former. She is an Assistant Coach at Apple Valley High School and the former Director of LD at the Victory Briefs Institute, and is excited to teach at the WFI this summer!
Adrian Graham
Adrian Graham is a junior at the University of Wyoming, where he is majoring in history. This past year, he competed in many national and regional tournaments. He is also a coach at Laramie High School. When he was in high school, Adrian attended Cheyenne East. There, he competed in policy debate, winning many speaker awards and tournament championships, including the State Championship. He is looking forward to this summer and cannot wait to meet all of you.
Allegro Wang
Allegro Wang is currently a debate coach and graduate student at the University of Georgia. Previously, Allegro debated at Thomas Jefferson High School and the University of Minnesota where they qualified for the NDT twice, making it to out rounds and earning speaker awards at several tournaments. They have also worked at Wayzata High School and Minneapolis South High School, coaching several teams who qualified to the TOC and one team to TOC semifinals. Throughout Allegro's coaching career, they have helped several teams qualify to the Tournament of Champions and have led labs at other debate camps in the past.
Niko Sims
Niko Sims is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Wyoming. He has been involved in competitive debate for 8 years. Niko debated at Emporia State University, where he was a Cross-Examination Debate Association semi-finalist and 4th Speaker overall. He teaches persuasive argumentation in the Department of Communication and Journalism, where he is pursuing his Masters Degree in Communication Studies. He coaches debate at the University of Wyoming and is actively involved in our Team Wyoming program. He can't wait to meet everyone!
Marcus Viney
Marcus Viney is the head coach of speech and debate at Cheyenne East High School where he has been coaching for nearly a decade. He has Master’s degrees in Philosophy and English from Colorado State University. He currently serves as the District Chair of the Hole-in-the-Wall District for the National Speech and Debate Association, as well as the President of the Wyoming High School Forensics Association. Marcus has celebrated multiple state and national championships with the East High team. Most recently he was inducted into the Wyoming High School Speech and Debate Hall of Fame. However, he is perhaps best known for his local celebrity pug, Junebug.
Lyle Wiley
Lyle Wiley is the head Speech and Debate Coach at Hot Springs County High School where he teaches English, Yearbook, and Digital Media Design. He also teaches concurrent college level Composition and Public Speaking through Central Wyoming College. Lyle completed his undergraduate education (English, Latin, and Secondary Education) at the University of Wyoming and is currently earning his Master's degree in English with a Rhetorical Studies emphasis from National University. Lyle has had the opportunity to coach multiple Wyoming State Championship Teams, individual State Champions, and NSDA National Qualifiers. Lyle is also the creator and host of the One Clap Speech and Debate Podcast and website.
Allen Pino
Allen Pino is an accomplished assistant coach at East High School, with a track record of coaching multiple state championship teams and numerous qualifiers to the NSDA National Tournament. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he also serves as the secretary to the Wyoming Speech and Debate Association and is a committee member to the NSDA Hole-in-The-Wall District. Pino earned his undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Wyoming, and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Secondary English from Western Governors University.
Melia Lever
Melia Lever is a junior at the University of Wyoming. She currently studies Political Science and Psychology. This past year she competed in many regional tournaments, as well as coaching for Team Wyoming. In high school, she attended Cheyenne East High School where she won the state championship. She looks forward to this summer and working with all of you!
Jean-Luc Willson
Jean-Luc Willson is a sophomore at the University of Wyoming where he is majoring in political science and international studies. This past year he has competed in many national and regional tournaments. In high school, he competed in policy debate and LD debate at Hot Springs County High School winning many awards, being a state finalist, and qualifying for the NSDA national tournament. He also acts as a volunteer coach for the Hot Springs County High School debate team. He is looking forward to meeting you all this summer!
